My very efficient circulation system focused on rapid response times, and it also meant there was a small amount of additional area in the building that could be used for non-programmed purposes. We presented this design to the Township and Fire Department, and it was unanimously approved. I next developed a schematic approach for the site plan, and I then refined those schematic concepts and competed the drafting of the plans as well as the sections and elevations. In eight hours I completed a schematic layout of all required interior spaces. I then studied the program further and developed a design approach based upon interior flow and bringing daylight to the common corridors and the apparatus bay. I documented the building and the site in AutoCAD. We also toured the existing warehouse building and discussed possible modifications with a structural engineer as well as the overall site requirements. Along with the Partner-in-Charge, I met with Township Trustees, Fire Department leadership and personnel to finalize the program and establish the adjacencies required and how the station would be used. ![]()
